Workshop on Improving Your Portfolio

Hi PMPs!  As you might know, we've been talking about the possibility of getting a better date for our Fall 2012 Show at Pynelogs.  An important step in doing that is to strengthen our group's application, which in turn means making sure that individual artists are presenting themselves as well as they can.  And that is all part of the process of showing your work no matter where you show it.  I have arranged a workshop with Jami from Pynelogs next week to talk about this.  Workshop topics will include:
  • preparing your artist CV
  • what your artist statement should say about you
  • how to take good images of your work
  • pricing your work - some guidelines and feedback on previous sales
I have two tentative dates: Wed the 7th or Thurs the 8th.  On either day it would be 1 pm and would last for about 2 hours.  Location is Pynelogs.

Can you let me know if you are planning to attend and, if so, which day is better for you?  I prefer the 7th myself. Just post a note on the blog.  Or, if you have any trouble with that, email me at laila.jensen@shaw.ca

Happy Painting!

So You Want to paint looser.

Thought I would share this link. This acrylic painter is indeed a loose painter. He has over 30 painting demos on utube. Check him out if you like http://www.youtube.com/user/robertjoynerartist I especially like how he can paint negative shapes.

San Jacinto Mountains

Hi Purcell Mountain Painters.

I painted this view from our patio here in Borrego Springs.  Peter and I have been hiking up the mountain you see.  There is lots of plein aire opportunities so I hope to have some decent paintings done this winter.   I am taking a watercolor on yupo course with artist Barbara Nickerson in December. www.barbaranickerson.com
Post some paintings, lets inspire each other!

We had a lovely day trying things out at the Windermere Community Hall yesterday. The price is right $35..
Henceforth we will say $5./per person.

In my opinion the light is okay. It would not hurt to take a light, if you have one, for your own table.

The hall is booked now for Liz Wiltzen's workshop. It is tentatively booked for Anne Abgott as well.
Do you think that Doug Swinton would feel less crowded in Windermere? His workshop depends on intimacy to a certain extent I think.

I think that it is a good idea to try a Saturday from time to time for all of us. The key is across the street. If someone wants to organize a day for early December or sometime in January,  I will book the hall.

I imagine,  if a practice portraiture of dressed figure is wanted, that I could invite the twins for the day.

Thank you to all who made yesterday so much fun. It is, as always, a privilege to be associated with such a group.

Tour of the Arts Information

This is a letter from the Chair of the 2012 Columbia Valley Tour of the Arts, Lynda Tutty.
It was sent to Sandra B. October 11, 2011.  Please read and consider your options. If several people want to participate that do not want to go through the jury process then it will be up to you to form your own group and handle the requirements of the Columbia Valley Tour of the Arts committee as set out in this letter.
As noted they are also looking for helpers for the Tour.
I have not included the personal email contact addresses here but they are available from both Sandras.
I apologise for the quality of the reproduced letter as it was sent  via snail mail and I did not want to spend the time re typing it. :-) You will always be able to find this  letter on this blog but you may have to search for the it in the archived posts along the right hand side of this page. Hope you are enjoying being in the loop for all this news that we seem to have these days.

Liz Wiltzen

I have hired 3 models for this workshop.
You will remember the twins, Sarah and Emily. They and their sister Anna are booked to share the time.

Another Tip from Sandra H

Watercolourists and Acrylic painters who use a plastic pallet can remove stains from their old pallets with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Makes them spic and span, crisp and white again.
Did you know you can use household waxed paper to replace those expensive acrylic paper pallets you use over your sponge in your acrylic paint boxes. Not quite as good but way less expensive and sometimes it is a long way to the store.
