Application for 2012 PMP Pynelogs Show

Hi Painters,

We had a great workshop with Jami at Pynelogs today. Thanks to those of you who attended. I think it was a good turnout and we got lots of really helpful information.

The Pynelogs call out to artists has been sent and our group application needs to be done by mid January. If you are planning to be in the 2012 Pynelogs show, please identify yourself by responding to this post.

If you are planning to be in the show, please be prepared to have ready -- at least one week before the mid January deadline -- the following information:

  • your CV, Bio and Artist Statement

  • at least one good quality image of your work

We should all have fairly up to date information from our fall show so hopefully it won't be too onerous.

I volunteered to try to get a better show date but organizing the group application by myself is a bit more than I wanted. But I'm happy to do a bit of coordinating and to submit the application with whatever info folks have provided. If someone wants to help, that would be great. I'm away from Dec 9 to 25.

At this point, please post here if you want to be in the show and we will go forward from there.

Dear Painters!!
Merry holidays!
I think that the 'key' people should decide when the Tuesday sessions will be closed for holidays so that we may let everyone know.
I do not have a car right now but I hope to see you there next week.
Paint on!!

RE The Tour of The arts and PMP

I received this letter from Lynda Tutty on Wednesday and it needs a response by Tuesday.  If any members are interested in being in the Tour as a group the first planning meeting is on Tuesday.  Please read the letter and let me know of any interest so that I can respond to Lynda.  Sherry if I have missed anyone who has paid since the last list I have please send it on to them.  I am in Calgary and will be back probably on Monday.  Thanks, Sandra B

The Letter from Lynda

Hi Sandra –
I sent a letter to you regarding the Tour committee’s review of the PMP participation in the 2011 Tour and an invitation to participate in the 2012 Tour. I have not heard from you so I’m checking that you received the letter. I attached a copy to this message – just in case!

The committee would like to hear from the PMP as to whether they intend to participate in the Tour under the guidelines outlined in that letter -  and if a PMP member would like to attend our committee meetings. Our next meeting, as stated in the letter, is Tuesday, December 6, 1:00pm at Pynelogs.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards - Lynda

Workshop on Improving Your Portfolio

Hi PMPs!  As you might know, we've been talking about the possibility of getting a better date for our Fall 2012 Show at Pynelogs.  An important step in doing that is to strengthen our group's application, which in turn means making sure that individual artists are presenting themselves as well as they can.  And that is all part of the process of showing your work no matter where you show it.  I have arranged a workshop with Jami from Pynelogs next week to talk about this.  Workshop topics will include:
  • preparing your artist CV
  • what your artist statement should say about you
  • how to take good images of your work
  • pricing your work - some guidelines and feedback on previous sales
I have two tentative dates: Wed the 7th or Thurs the 8th.  On either day it would be 1 pm and would last for about 2 hours.  Location is Pynelogs.

Can you let me know if you are planning to attend and, if so, which day is better for you?  I prefer the 7th myself. Just post a note on the blog.  Or, if you have any trouble with that, email me at laila.jensen@shaw.ca

Happy Painting!

San Jacinto Mountains

Hi Purcell Mountain Painters.

I painted this view from our patio here in Borrego Springs.  Peter and I have been hiking up the mountain you see.  There is lots of plein aire opportunities so I hope to have some decent paintings done this winter.   I am taking a watercolor on yupo course with artist Barbara Nickerson in December. www.barbaranickerson.com
Post some paintings, lets inspire each other!

We had a lovely day trying things out at the Windermere Community Hall yesterday. The price is right $35..
Henceforth we will say $5./per person.

In my opinion the light is okay. It would not hurt to take a light, if you have one, for your own table.

The hall is booked now for Liz Wiltzen's workshop. It is tentatively booked for Anne Abgott as well.
Do you think that Doug Swinton would feel less crowded in Windermere? His workshop depends on intimacy to a certain extent I think.

I think that it is a good idea to try a Saturday from time to time for all of us. The key is across the street. If someone wants to organize a day for early December or sometime in January,  I will book the hall.

I imagine,  if a practice portraiture of dressed figure is wanted, that I could invite the twins for the day.

Thank you to all who made yesterday so much fun. It is, as always, a privilege to be associated with such a group.

Tour of the Arts Information

This is a letter from the Chair of the 2012 Columbia Valley Tour of the Arts, Lynda Tutty.
It was sent to Sandra B. October 11, 2011.  Please read and consider your options. If several people want to participate that do not want to go through the jury process then it will be up to you to form your own group and handle the requirements of the Columbia Valley Tour of the Arts committee as set out in this letter.
As noted they are also looking for helpers for the Tour.
I have not included the personal email contact addresses here but they are available from both Sandras.
I apologise for the quality of the reproduced letter as it was sent  via snail mail and I did not want to spend the time re typing it. :-) You will always be able to find this  letter on this blog but you may have to search for the it in the archived posts along the right hand side of this page. Hope you are enjoying being in the loop for all this news that we seem to have these days.

Liz Wiltzen

I have hired 3 models for this workshop.
You will remember the twins, Sarah and Emily. They and their sister Anna are booked to share the time.

Another Tip from Sandra H

Watercolourists and Acrylic painters who use a plastic pallet can remove stains from their old pallets with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Makes them spic and span, crisp and white again.
Did you know you can use household waxed paper to replace those expensive acrylic paper pallets you use over your sponge in your acrylic paint boxes. Not quite as good but way less expensive and sometimes it is a long way to the store.

Cleaning Paint Brushes

Do you have an old paint brush that you can't get clean, try soaking it in a fairly concentrated solution of Murphys Oil Soup. ( Available at the hardware store maybe even Sobeys or AG) .
It also works for daily cleaning of brushes. Oil painters should first clean with solvent and then the final cleaning with the soap solution. Acrylic painters rinse your brushes first then swish the brush in the soap solution then rinse. I had several old brushes that I thought were goners but after soaking them over night  they were nice and soft again. Let me know if this works for you in the comments.

A short message

Well it seems you  are still a little reluctant to contribute here to try it out. Don't be shy. Even though I have subscribed I still haven't been able to test if I get an email when this is up dated so that is why I am writing this blurb. In my research it said that "Feed Burner " that's the program that is suppose to send the email alerts is slow and it some times takes a while for them to notify subscribers of blog updates. So I am giving them one more chance to pull up their socks and if I don't get an emails soon I will look into a different program.

Please you authors blog a little.

Victoria wants a workshop with Doug Swinton and also one with Liz Wiltzen in the spring if you are interested in these please click on the Doug Swinton tab just north of this blog.
Barry is working on a three fold brochure and would like anyone with an old copy of our old one to contact him or bring it to painting on Tuesday.
Please subscribe by email to this blog. Just enter your gmail email in the box just right of this blog where it says  Follow by Email and you will be sent an email alert when this blog is up dated. Wolfgang has already entered his.
I see Wolfgang that you have started a blog do you need help with it? Painting Nature is a good title.
Rowena you may want to up date your gmail account so that your name is published when you blog instead of unknown and Wolfgang you might like to update  yours too so that your name appears like ours.

You will see that I added some tabs above this blog where if you move your mouse over they will highlight and if you click on them you will be taken to another page where we will keep important even news so that you can see what is going on and sign up if you want too.  To get back to the blog simply hit Home.
See that wasn't too hard. I just wish that you folks had been the bloggers not me so that you could say what you want not what I wrote. LOL in my book that means Lots of Love Sandra. Check out my new blog Laughoutloudorlol.blogspot.com Sandra

Pynelogs Show 2012

At our meeting earlier this week, I agreed to liaise with CV Arts on arranging the dates for next year's show. We would like to have the show moved to a time when the restaurant at Pynelogs is open. Ideally, our show would include the September long weekend. I will be keeping the group posted via this blog, so please watch for postings.

New day new look.

I am hoping that you continue to look here for new posts on a regular basis to get familiar with checking here. I have removed some of your blogs so we don't have to wade through stuff. We have 8  no just in 9  members so far. This is good! If you haven't received an invitation I will send it again and hope that it works. In bloggers "known issues" it says that invites to certain Internet providers don't let this type of invite through. They suggest that you not click on the link but copy it and paste it into your browser. Does that sound like Greek to you I will show you. Your browser is the address bar at the top of your screen the part were you enter www. etc.  Also the invite may have gone to your spam or junk mail check there. Another thing that "known issues" said it that the link would only work once so if you tried it and it didn't work the best would probably be to open a gmail account and then phone me with that address and I will send another email invite. I hope you will persevere so that we soon get all connected. PS Sandra B said that the black background colour was hard to read. I will be experimenting with colours so check back.

Invite to be a contributor.

Please reply to your invite to be a contributor to this site, which you should have recieved in your email box. I just invited all on our PMP 2011-2012 membership list. Since all our information will be in one spot now we should get less emails and we will just check here. Please stick to PMP business when you post after your inital try. I will help you make a blog spot of your own if you want to ..... . It's fun believe me...

One more post today.

I have been working on the layout of the blogspot this morning. It seems now that as more contributors are added the picture profile is not showing. I have reseached this and that is how it is so don't fuss trying to get your pic here. If you have already created a profile picture for your gmail account no harm done. I am also learning as we go along. In my research I also learned that we can have over 100 contributors so no worries there. I guess some were able to sign in the first time with other than gmail accounts but will have to create a gmail account if you want to continue to view this site once we close it up.

Sandra H here

I just sat down and added you as authors. It seemed to work even if you don't have a gmail account. Maybe you only need that to start a new blog. Anyway if you accept the invitation to be authors/bloggers you should be on your way. Just sign in with your account info and try it for yourself. For now just write a little blurb and publish it we will understand then as time goes on we can add relevent information as it comes up. Just check back once in a while to see what is new. Gwen tried it and so did Sherry now it is your turn. Hope this works for every one and we can make use of this wonderful tool. We are still a public site so don't add any personal information in your blog. Once we get set up we can close this up and use it for our own group.

Sherry here

Just reminder to pay dues, thanks if you aready paid. $35.00
